On Sunday, September 23, 2012 Sarasota will host the largest and coolest electric vehicle (EV) event ever held in the area as we “Electrify the Circle” and celebrate 2012 National Plug-In Day. This is an unprecedented nationwide observance drawing global attention to the environmental, economic and other benefits of plug-in electric vehicles. This event is being conducted in partnership with the City of Sarasota, Sarasota County, Plug-In America, the Sierra Club, and the Electric Auto Association. Major local sponsors include Region Solar, Harrimans Solar, The Met Fashion House, Agave Denim, Spotlight Graphics, and The Hampton Inn and Suites.
The event starts at 10:00am with EV’s assembling in downtown Sarasota’s beautiful Five Points Park with a brief Mayors Proclamation, City/County recognitions, and press conference. At 10:30am, a silent EV parade will then proceed down lower Main Street over the scenic Ringling Bridge with more media coverage enroute. EV’s will then stage inside renowned St. Armand’s Circle from 11:00am to 3:00pm for the first ever local EV Expo with music, EV charging stations, green exhibitors, and some “electrifying” entertainment. Great food and drink will be available all day from St. Armand’s many restaurants surrounding the circle. Vehicles planned for display include Tesla Roadsters, Tesla Model S, Fisker Karmas, Chevy Volts, Nissan Leafs, Mitsubishi i-MiEVs, CODA sedan, Ford Transit Connect, custom retrofit EVs, Zero Motorcycles, Brammo Impulse motorcycles, Pedago electric bicycles, and more. Come meet the owners and ask about their experiences.
Meanwhile, free public EV Ride and Drives will take place from 11:00am to 3:00pm at the Fillmore Drive parking lot located directly behind the Met Fashion House to Mote Marine/Ken Thompson Park so you can experience the joy of EV driving yourself. Vehicles such as the Chevy Volt, Fisker Karma, Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, and Wheego Life will be available. Public charging stations are located throughout the area. All of this will have extensive media coverage and the entire venue couldn’t be more fun, social, and entertaining. The Met is also planning to host a private Saturday night cocktail party from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for Fisker & Tesla enthusiasts at their fashion house on St. Armand’s in advance of the event. In addition, the Hampton Inn & Suites Sarasota Bradenton Airport has a special “National Plug In Day” room rate and charge stations available at 941-355-8140 or 1-800-Hampton. Book by 9/19/2012.
We look forward to your participation in this historic & exciting event. EV Staging at Selby Five Points Park begins promptly at 9am. For EV participation in parade/expo please RSVP to: Larry Chanin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
